The Stair Runner

Today’s blogpost is going to be short and sweet because there is no way I could write up a better stair runner tutorial than Annie Selke has. HERES THE COMPREHENSIVE GUIDE

Don’t let “pneumatic staple gun” stop you from completing this project. It is an incredibly manageable (easy) project to tackle in a couple of hours! And that staple gun is a JOY to use. If you don’t have one, you can rent one from your local hardware store and it won’t cost you much at all.

The only advice I’d emphasize on this one is to pull the runner SUPER DUPER taut as you go. I thought mine was really tight and now that its relaxed a bit upon completion and use, I’ve noticed it could have been pulled a little tighter.

My stairs are pretty beat up, rather than starting the extremely laborious job to restore them, we went with the runner route to give them an overall cleaner look, providing a cushiony step and making it safer for our small girls.

Below are a couple of snaps I took during the process, obviously they aren’t enough to get you through, be sure to head over to Annie Selke for their guide!

I am so happy with the end result! The runner is so durable and soft and such a good neutral stripe.

  1. I love this! We have nearly identical stairs. Did you cover the landing? That’s the only thing preventing me from starting the project. The 90 degree turn. Help!

    1. That’s what had me so hesitant on this project! After searching on Pinterest for a while I found plenty of inspiration keeping the landing uncovered. So we stopped at the top of that last riser, kept the landing clear and started again. Do it!
