I get asked for sources of things around our home daily. I thought rather than just providing the links to things it would be fun and informative to create a “get the look” blog series which gives insight into my design process as well.
I always start with a mood board before purchasing anything new. The guest room had never been a designed space up until this point so it was a perfect blank canvas to work with.
I started on my computer ( side note: to make these mood boards I just screenshot images and arrange them on top of one another in the mac application, Pages) and settled on this as my main source of inspiration.
A lot of times I already own some pieces that I know I’ll want to incorporate into the design so I find similar images online by doing a google search and insert them into my board to give me an overall look. Of course by doing this the finished room won’t be exact but the colors, flow and lines will be there.
To give you an idea of where I ended up, here it is! Now lets break it down to the details and where to find these things!
RUG
It all started with this Loloi rug, such beautiful colors and quality.
BED
I drew inspiration from this amber interiors bed and ended up building the headboard and slipcovering it myself. I then sewed up a bedskirt to match and create the look of a slipcovered bed frame. Working on a tutorial for the blog for that headboard!
LINEN CHAIR
I found this one at a thrift store and slipcovered it in linen but this one is similar
MORROCAN BEDSPREAD
wool morrocan pom pom blankets from my shop.
STOOLS
these are from the inspiration image. I used what I had hanging around the house
SIDE TABLE
the one I ended up using is discontinued but heres one similar
SCONCES
I love that these plug in, makes sconces much more accessible to those that dont want to hire an electrician etc. And my favorite part being the ceramic base, so pretty!
WOOD BOAT
the wooden dough bowl boat was a thrift find but heres a dough bowl similar.
TEXTILES
these from my shop.
POTTERY
I made the pottery on the nightstand, heres some from my shop.
LANDSCAPE ART
from Minted. this one is out of print, heres one similar
WOVEN BENCH
a pricey but pretty bench shown in my inspiration image, I decided to build my own with 2×2’s and weaving webbing for the top.
BEDDING
linen duvet from my shop
BIG WOVEN BASKET
from Birchlane
Luvs, Lindy
This room is gorgeous! Is there a book or other resource you could recommend for learning how to sew slipcovers for chairs like this? I have a perfect candidate!
