I lead a workshop on mindful living this past weekend as it pertains to creating intentional lives and finding joy in the process of it all. The preparation for it had me very present in my own life, and I felt a natural pull away from this space. I just want to share a simple refocusing statement I use when trying to identify my “why” in some area or another. “What is true?”. With so many distractions in our modern world, it’s easy to talk ourselves into anything. ie, that we have balance with social media, that we aren’t addicted to something or some substance, that there isn’t some work deep down that’s needing our presence for growth. “What is true?”. Is this XYZ in line with my striving to be .... (a better mother, wife, human). If the answer is no, readjust. Talking to myself here and anyone needing to hear it.
My girls (and dad) brought home these flowers for me last week and together with the sunshine we are experiencing it feels like spring in here. I welcome it but the other day I went to turn on a lamp at 4 pm and for the first time in my life I felt consciously grateful for that early evening that invited me to create a restful environment inside. In my head I even said something about how that warmth of the lamp won’t feel the same when done in the months ahead as seasons change. I like little benchmarks like this that reflect how you are growing in the ways you set out too. To be more mindful, to be more grateful in present moments, in present seasons. .
